Preparing your next step...
Understand the right route for your trip to the United States, prepare your supporting information and approach your application with greater clarity.
The right US travel route depends on your circumstances, purpose of travel and eligibility. Understanding the difference between ESTA and a visa is an important first step before preparing an application.
Discuss your travel plansFor eligible travellers visiting the USA under the Visa Waiver Program, subject to the applicable requirements.
A visa may be appropriate where ESTA is not available or where your circumstances require a different travel route.
Your intended activities, nationality, previous travel history and individual circumstances can all affect which route is appropriate.
Planning a holiday, sightseeing trip or short visit to friends and family in the United States?
Attending meetings, conferences or other permitted business-related activities may require a different consideration of your travel route.
Some journeys do not fit neatly into a standard tourism trip. Your circumstances should be considered before choosing an application route.
